Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer. Nonmelanoma is the most common form of skin cancer and occurs in at least 2-3 million people per year. This form of cancer rarely results in death and in the U.S. was the cause of less than 0.1% of all cancer deaths. Often appearing as a painless raised area of skin, or a raised area with an ulcer or a hard lump with a scaly top, proper diagnosis and treatment are imperative to curing this form of cancer. Melanoma is the most aggressive and dangerous form of skin cancer. If untreated, it can spread to other organs, making it more difficult to treat and ultimately deadly. La Jolla Dermatology and Laser Surgery Center offers timely diagnosis and treatment options for those affected by skin cancer and testing for those who might be concerned about the change in appearance of a mole or some irregularity in their skin.

Skin Cancer & Melanoma

Although skin cancer and melanoma are thought by many people to be the same thing, melanoma is actually one type of skin cancer, its rarest form. Other forms of the disease are less aggressive and more common. We know how important it is to understand the different kinds of skin cancer and their treatments and our La Jolla clinic offers treatment and help for those afflicted with skin cancer.

Mohs Surgery

Mohs surgery is a precise surgical technique used to treat many basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) and squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs), the two most common types of skin cancer. It is considered the most effective technique for treatment as during surgery, the surgeon can see where the cancer stops, resulting in a high cure rate and allowing you to keep as much healthy skin as possible.
