Halo Laser treatment has been used on hundreds of patients and provides excellent results with very minimal downtime. To benefit from this latest technology, that also fits perfectly into a busy lifestyle, give us a call or schedule a consultation at the La Jolla Dermatology and Laser Surgery Center.
What is the Halo laser?
The Sciton Halo Laser combines two lasers to provide a synergistic treatment for the skin. It is the first such laser of its kind, offering a hybrid fractional laser. The treatment involves a combination of two lasers – a fractional erbium ablative laser and a non-ablative laser for skin rejuvenation at a deep level.
The Halo combines different wavelengths to eliminate skin concerns including:
- Sunspots or sun damage
- Uneven skin tone
- Signs of aging
- Enlarged pores
- Wrinkles around the eyes
- Deep wrinkles on the face
- Wrinkles and spots on the hands, arms, and chest
Adults who are in overall good health and need to address skin concerns including spots, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores, visible signs of aging, uneven skin tone, and all with minimal downtime, are good candidates. People who are chronically ill or have an active skin infection are not good candidates. Patients who have received retinoid or isotretinoin treatment recently also may not be suitable candidates. Consult with Dr. Shirazi to understand more about your candidacy and the treatment outcome.
How does Halo work?
In the past, the two different wavelengths were delivered separately and it would require six to eight sessions to achieve desired results. Halo by Sciton is the new generation of lasers that provides great results in fewer sessions.
Halo combines the two wavelengths where the 1470 nm wavelength targets the dermis to rectify deep damage caused by the sun or pigmentation while tightening the collagen in the skin. The 2940 nm wavelength targets epidermis or the top layer of the skin to deliver zero to 100 microns. This latter wavelength addresses textural correction of the outer layer along with a reduction in size of pores, and smoothing the skin surface.
The flexibility offered by Halo makes it possible to fine-tune each wavelength, the depth that can be reached and the kind of ablation delivered. One hour before administering the laser, a topical cream is applied to help minimize sensations of laser application. Using motion tracking technology, the face is measured to make sure even treatment is given. The handpiece of Halo is then moved over each section of the skin sequentially in a crisscross manner. The system alerts when the required treatment is complete.
Recovery after Halo laser treatment
Mild swelling and redness are common after the Halo treatment. You may also experience some skin tenderness for some days. Because of the deep-rooted ablation and rejuvenation, the skin will undergo peeling and take on a bronzed appearance. This usually starts one day after the procedure and lasts for four to five days. After this, you can see your new skin emerging and improvements that continue over time.
It is possible to see significant improvement in the first two weeks following the Halo laser treatment. The pigmentation improves first followed by the deeper regeneration at the dermal level that continues for some months.
We work with each patient to understand and evaluate their concerns and requirements. Based on this evaluation, we will advise on the intensity of the treatment during each session and the total number of sessions needed to achieve your desired results. The best advantage of Halo treatment is the lack of downtime that fits perfectly into a busy lifestyle.
Halo laser treatment has many advantages over traditional laser treatments including:
- Lesser treatment sessions needed – it is possible to get optimum results in one to two sessions.
- Improvements in overall skin tone and texture.
- Significant removal of discoloration and reduction in fine lines.
- Correction of hyperpigmentation
- Discoloration of facial skin is corrected
- No requirement of painkillers or nerve blocks
- Healing time is quick
The Halo laser continuously measures the temperature of the skin during the treatment and adjusts the energy and wavelength to deliver customized results. The device also adjusts the speed of scanning depending on how fast or slow the handpiece is being moved. The Halo laser device keeps the skin cool during the treatment to minimize the heat or redness felt after the session.
What results can I expect to see?
You will see initial results between two and five days after your Halo treatment, but your skin will continue to improve over time. Most patients see the greatest pigmentary improvement in the first two to three weeks.
With Halo laser treatment, the results are quicker and there is minimal to no downtime. Improved results with the following conditions are usually what patients experience with Halo by Sciton:
- Removal of fine lines and wrinkles
- No more discoloration of the skin
- Even tone and pigmentation
- Reduction of the size of pores
- Collagen stimulation resulting in deep rejuvenation
With appropriate aftercare instructions for your skin, you will be able to maintain its glow and health for years to come. Protection against UV light and avoiding prolonged sun exposure is important to enjoy the results of Halo laser treatment for a long period of time.
