Flaunting earpieces or earrings are not so enjoyable when the earlobe is damaged or sagging. Earlobes deserve as much attention as the rest of the face or body. If you are concerned about the shape or condition of your earlobes, have them addressed with experienced rejuvenation and repair treatments. Dr. Azadeh Shirazi, MD at La Jolla Dermatology and Laser Surgery Center has performed thousands of ear lobe correction procedures in the past decade and is an expert injector in cosmetic dermatology. Our priority is to offer completely individualized treatment options to create natural results for each patient according to their medical and cosmetic needs.
What is ear lobe repair & rejuvenation?
Heavy earrings or earpieces can drag the skin of the earlobe down resulting in sagging or drooping. The aging process also results in volume loss and pronounced effects of gravity. Multiple piercings to fit large earpieces may also take a toll on the texture and appearance of the earlobes.
Surgical procedures may sometimes be required to correct sagging or drooping. If you have a torn earlobe, this can be easily repaired by an in-office procedure using just a local anesthetic and dissolvable sutures. The scar will disappear and you can re-pierce the ear within 3-6 months. For those who have sagging earlobes that no longer withstand the weight of earrings, there are noninvasive treatment options as well. At La Jolla Dermatology and Laser Surgery Center we use various hyaluronic acid fillers to rejuvenate the ear lobes to a more youthful, strong state. This can be accomplished with a 20 min painless procedure using just topical anesthetic cream. Nonsurgical options for ear lobe rejuvenation can include the use of Juvederm, Restylane, Belotero, or other dermal fillers.
Dermal fillers are injections administered to the earlobe using a fine needle. The fillers add volume and remove fine lines or creases. A topical anesthetic may be given to minimize pain or swelling.
What results can I expect?
The results last for one year or more and it is possible to wear earrings after the treatment. The number of dermal filler treatment sessions needed depends on the extent of damage that needs correction.
